The Canadian Tube Fly Company

established 2003

Tube flies are exactly what they sound like, they are tied up on a tube instead of a standard hook shank. Tubes are thicker than a conventional fly, an attribute most steelhead and salmon fishermen find desirable. Hook size and style can be varied for whatever situation you are fishing. Single, double, and even treble hooks (regulations permitting) are all possibilities.

We have now had several successful years on the Internet selling quality salmon and steelhead flies, flytying supplies, and other fly fishing related sporting goods. Beginning with, ADIPOS FLYTYTING , our original shop, we now offers many items designed for tube flies including some hard to find feathers and fur. Fly tying has become much more than a hobby to us!Though we no longer sell flies to the general public (except for our Egret Limited Series Tube Flies), we do have many resource pages available to everyone a s a reference to get your tying juices flowing.

Since the hooks are not part of the fly there is no chance of the hook rusting out or the point getting dinged before the fly has seen its end. There are also more hook-ups with tubes. With the fly and the hook being separate, when you set that hook the leverage of having a long shanked fly is eliminated. Of course this helps you hold on to more fish after hook-up as well. There has been a recent “awakening” in the fly tying industry to the concept of tubes. Tube flies have been around for some time now, particularly in Europe. It's only recently that they have been successfully fished on the west coast of Alaska, Washington, B.C., Oregon, California and stretching across the continent. Several fly tiers (including ourselves) have been developing both new and traditional fly patterns and putting them on tubes.

Be sure to take a look at our extensive selection of tube tying materials. If you have been on other tube fly sites, you will quickly notice that we offer an exponentially bigger selection of tube styles. We now not offer over 35 different styles of tubes, all in different sizes, weights, and finishes. We also have a growing selection of tube fly vise adapters, tube fly wing materials, tube fly plumage, cones, and tube fly hooks.

Tube fly patterns can be tied on either plastic, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, or brass tubes in various sizes. The lightest flies are tied on plastic tubes, many of our customers find these most useful for waking flies or any situation that calls for a low water pattern. Patterns tied on our plastic tubes also have the slimmest profile. The next jump in weight goes to Aluminum tubes. Patterns tied on these tubes are still extremely easy to cast, though they do sink at a much faster rate than traditional plastic tube flies. The heaviest selection of steelhead tube fly patterns are tied on the copper, stainless steel, and brass tubes. The copper is slightly heavier than the brass and they both sink at extremely fast rates. Matching these tube flies up with an ultra fast sink tip will get you to holding salmon and steelhead in almost any water condition. We also offer several styles of Hybrid tubes and still offer Juri Shumakov's original tubes. These tube flies are unique in that most of the weight is at the back of the fly, giving a smaller head. Many fly fishermen swear by bottle tubes too for their hooking abilities as well as the fact that you can have an extremely large profile fly on a very small tube.
